Virtual Card Launch
My Role
Timeline
Overview
Global66 is a FINTECH founded in Chile , which offers a global account with financial services to Latin Americans in terms of currency conversion and international money transfers to bank accounts. Currently, Global66 operates in 7 countries (Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and the United States) and supports money transfers to more than 80 countries.
The next step for Global66 was to develop a new product consisting of opening bank accounts and allowing payments to merchants through virtual prepaid cards.
The Problem
The FINTECH industry has transformed how consumers and businesses handle financial transactions, with credit, debit, and prepaid cards playing a central role in everyday commerce. However, as the industry rapidly evolves it must address numerous challenges in terms of regulations, consumer expectations, and emerging security threats.
Design Process
This case study addresses a social complex issue with significant impact. I made design decisions based on direct user feedback, estimated conversion rates, and considerations for design scalability. I iterated fast with rapid feedback.
Research
Understanding the needs of the user was the first step to achieve this. We conducted user interviews and market research.
Sketch
The sketching phase was the foundation of the design process, where initial ideas were translated into visual concepts.
Wireframes
This phase transformed sketches into structured digital layouts, focusing on the product core functionalities.
Validation
During this stage we tested the wireframes with usability test in real users of Global 66, where we evaluated the core design.
Launch
After launch, we kept contact with real users to know the performance of the new product, reviewing future iterations.
Empathising with users
How is the users card usage in other countries?
How is the user behaviour when using e-commerce platforms?
Have they ever experienced any issues with their banks while traveling? (e.g issues using the cards in foreign stores, losing physical card).
What type of payment options would make living abroad easier?
The User
During the research process we contacted 5 global66 clients who live abroad, we interviewed them and they told us about their experiences with the use of credit cards outside of Chile.
Sketching & Wireframing
After knowing more about the user and having an idea of how to integrate the new virtual card with an industry standard process, it was time to define the user flow, sketch and make wireframes.
Launch
Through the team efforts, we were able to launch the new Global 66 Virtual Card, it not only passed the usability tests with great results, but also the UI of the whole user flow was highlighted as one of the top elements of the project. The top KPI's we had during the first two weeks of launch were:
65%
Card Activation Rate
55%
User Retention
95%
User Satisfaction
